Product descriptions The official mention of the term spaghetti can historically be traced back to the first dictionary of the Italian language by Nicol Tommaseo and Bernardo Bellini (1819). The word spaghetto was included as the singular masculine diminutive of spago (thread), and soup made from spaghetti (noodle soup) was mentioned, consisting of noodles the size of a long, thin thread such as sopracapellini. An interesting fact: In 1957, the BBC broadcast the first documentary about spaghetti production, and the next day the television studios were flooded with calls from viewers asking for the names of spaghetti manufacturers and distributors so they could buy some. Spaghetti is so versatile that it can be served with all kinds of seasonings, from fish to meat and from vegetables to cheese, but it is also excellent simply with extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of Parmesan cheese. Legal information The German Food Information Regulation (LMIV) introduced, among other things, mandatory information regarding nutrition declarations, instructions for use, and information about the country of origin for goods from abroad. This information must be provided on all prepacked foods, even if they are intended for further processing (for the definition of prepacked foods, see Article 2(2)(e) of the LMIV). Before the LMIV entered into force, this information only had to be declared on packaging intended for the end consumer. The labeling requirements of the LMIV are generally also mandatory for non-prepacked foods (so-called loose goods), although certain exceptions apply. For example, the obligation to provide nutrition labeling does not apply to these goods. The food business operator under whose name or company name the food is marketed is primarily responsible for food information, or, if that operator is not established in the EU, the importer. Under Article 8(3) of the LMIV, food business operators at other stages of distribution also have a secondary obligation, as they may not place foods on the market that do not comply with the LMIV requirements. The mandatory information about food required under the LMIV must be placed on food packaging or on a label attached to it. In addition, the mandatory information must be provided in a language that is easily understood by consumers in the respective member state in which the food is marketed. In Germany, labeling must be in German (see Section 2 of the LMIDV). For products with labeling in a foreign language, this means that they must be provided with an additional label in the form of a sticker containing the information in German. Additional labeling is unnecessary if the product is printed in multiple languages and the German labeling complies with the requirements of the LMIV.
