Description

The exomed amphibian skin profile test kit detects chytrid fungi (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis; Bd) via RT-PCR testing and identifies bacteria and fungi on the skin. Instructions for use The exomed amphibian skin profile test kit is used to detect chytrid fungi (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis; Bd) via RT-PCR testing and to identify bacteria and fungi on the skin. The kit can be used for tailed amphibians (axolotls, salamanders, newts, etc.), frogs and toads (dendrobatids, various frog species, toads, and fire-bellied toads), and caecilians (Gymnophiona). It contains everything needed to collect the sample, including the necessary accessories and detailed instructions on how and when testing should be performed. Testing is particularly recommended for ill animals, newly acquired animals, and before introducing animals to one another. Testing for Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (chytrid fungus) is performed via RT-PCR. Bacteria and fungi are cultured, incubated, and identified under conditions optimized for amphibian pathogens. In addition, an antibiotic susceptibility test is performed for each detected pathogen against various antibiotics, enabling appropriate treatment to be initiated. Regular testing helps detect and respond to chytridiomycosis or bacterial infections at an early stage. After the sample is submitted, it is examined and you will generally receive the results by mail or email within 35 business days. Upon request, the results can be sent directly to your veterinarian. Except for the dry swab or the swab with medium and its wrapping, all materials are recyclable or 100% compostable and therefore environmentally sustainable. Included are: a shipping envelope sent to you; the laboratory examination and delivery of the results, already paid for with the purchase of the kit; a submission form for information about the owner and animal; a swab sampling set (dry swab/swab with medium) and instructions (swab with wrapping); and a prepaid return envelope (return shipping costs within Germany to the laboratory are included in the price).
