Its mechanical mode of action is based on alginate, a plant-derived active ingredient that forms a gel-like protective barrier. The chewable tablet format is convenient to carry and take. The protective barrier helps prevent acidic stomach contents from flowing back into the esophagus and causing irritation. Indications: treatment of acid-related symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, including heartburn, acid regurgitation, and digestive disorders (dyspepsia), for example after meals or during pregnancy. Directions: Adults and children aged 12 and over may chew 24 tablets as needed, up to 4 times daily after meals or at bedtime. No dosage adjustment is required for older adults. Children under 12 years should take Gaviscon Dual chewable tablets only after consulting a doctor. Active ingredients per chewable tablet: 250 mg sodium alginate, 106.5 mg sodium bicarbonate, and 187.5 mg calcium carbonate. Other ingredients: macrogol 20,000, mannitol, copovidone, acesulfame potassium, aspartame (contains phenylalanine), peppermint flavor (levomenthol, sucrose), azorubine, magnesium stearate, xylitol, and sodium carmellose. Warnings: contains sodium compounds, aspartame (E951), azorubine (E122), menthol, and sucrose. High sodium content.
