Oakmoss is a lichen found in mountainous regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It grows in a shrubby form on the trunks and branches of oak trees, as well as on other deciduous and coniferous trees. The bushy, flat lichen appears white to mint green when dry and turns yellowish to olive green when wet. Its shape resembles an elk antler. Oakmoss is used in the perfume industry as a base fragrance ingredient. Extracts obtained using solvents or vacuum distillation range in color from dark green to brown or pale yellow. These extracts have a bark-like, earthy, forest-like, mossy, and sensual aroma that combines well with floral notes and enhances oriental fragrances. A type of moss that grows on pine trees is particularly sought after in perfumery for its turpentine-like scent. Oakmoss extracts in men's fragrances evoke the scent of a damp forest, while in women's perfumes they contribute a floral chypre fragrance. Ingredients: Oakmoss.
