The story of an Italian-style legend began in 1959, when Argentine racing driver Alejandro de Tomaso arrived modestly to take on Ferrari and Maserati, working with major Piedmontese designers such as Ghia, Giugiaro and Bertone. The first vehicle was the famous Vallelunga, a grand-touring coup. In the following years came the Mangusta, with its distinctive bodywork. The vehicle marked the beginning of cooperation with Ford of America, enabling De Tomaso to compete with the other Italian supercars of the time, particularly Ferrari and Lamborghini. The Mangusta was the legendary model that gave the company international recognition. The oil crisis marked the decline of this model on the US market, but the unstoppable De Tomaso had already invented a new segment: the production of high-performance luxury sedans. After acquiring the Maserati brand, De Tomaso reduced the project to four doors. This led to the Longchamp and Deauville, which, like the entire Tomaso range, were distinguished by rare design. At the same time, from 1976 to 1990, while producing luxury sedans with remarkable forward-thinking design, De Tomaso created the first city car with sporty performance, the Mini De Tomaso. From 1993 to 2004, the Guar was produced with a Ford V8 engine in three body styles: barchetta, coup and Spyder. At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the latest version of the Bordeauville super hatchback was presented in a modern crossover style. Just a few days later came the brand-new Pantera model, with 10 cylinders, a 5,200 cc engine and 700 hp, featuring a Lamborghini Huracn engine with an English tradition. Tomaso's projects envision the production of further new, high-quality models. The legend continues and evolvesa stylish example for connoisseurs of Italian design and the highest Italian quality, now also found in Tomaso's new reading and sunglasses.
