Triops Cancriformis are also known as the European species and are considered the oldest surviving animal species in the world. Cancriformis originated in Bavaria. Because they originally come from Central Europe, their temperature requirements are not as high as those of other Triops species. Triops Cancriformis can live at temperatures around 22C. They grow somewhat more slowly at lower temperatures than other Triops species, but it is assumed that this may also allow them to live somewhat longer than other prehistoric crustaceans. Compared with their shell, they have a short tail. Their striped shell pattern also makes these Triops visually appealing. They do not swim through the aquarium as actively or quickly as other Triops; instead, they are calm Triops that focus on digging in the sand.
