Verduijn's was founded in Breskens by 31-year-old Piet Verduijn and has supplied the region with sweets for many years. After suffering serious injuries in World War II and losing his wife Dina, Piet found the courage to continue. At his home on Havenstraat, he searched for the perfect recipe for sugar wafers to add to his product range. Baking sugar wafers around New Year's is a tradition in the region. Piet Verduijn traveled throughout Zeeland with his products, which became so popular that the whole family, including his son Adrie, soon had to help. Over the years, the company grew steadily and eventually exported to Belgium, France and Germany. The entire house was eventually used for production, and part of the garden was sacrificed for a new building. Piet installed a large oven with a packaging line, converted the living room into an office and brought his son-in-law Leo into the business as a pastry specialist.
